Vasectomy in Orlando, Florida:

Emmanuel Christian Health Center (of Orlando)

The Emmanuel Christian Health Center (ECHC) in Orlando near East Colonial Drive has been one of Dr.Stein's vasectomy sites for 2 years. Dr. Vivian Woodard owns the Center and is kind enough to allow Dr. Stein to use the facility periodically to provide vasectomy services. The fee is $300. You may pay at ECHC with cash or check only, or you may prepay with Visa or MasterCard by calling 866-827-8463 at least two days before your procedure. Saturday vasectomy dates are listed in our Outfield Schedule Page. As of May 2006, use of this center is temporarily on hold as we begin providing vasectomy services for Orlando at Planned Parenthood of Greater Orlando. As demand increases, we may resume use of the ECHC soon. To schedule, call toll-free 866-VAS-TIME (866-827-8463). Staff is available to take your call between 9 and 4:30, M-F. During other hours, or if you get a recording because someone else is on the line, you may leave a message and his staff will return your call. They can also answer any questions that you may still have about no-scalpel vasectomy after reading about the procedure in the Vasectomy Page of vasweb.com.

There are actually 3 Emmanuel Christian Health Centers (so don't get confused):

1. Clermont (in south Lake County) near the junction of State Road 50 and US 27 ... No vasectomy services.
2. Lady Lake (in north Lake County) ... No vasectomy services.
3. Orlando (in Orange County) near West Colonial Boulevard ... Yes. Vasectomy services.

This page is about the facility in Orlando.

The Emmanuel Christian Health Centers provide health care services to many low-income people who might otherwise have no easy access to quality health care. This area of West Orlando, with a culturally diverse population, would be sorely underserved if ECHC were not there to help. Dr. Stein believes that quality family planning services, including vasectomy, should be available to all regardless of income, and so welcomes the opportunity to bring no-needle no-scalpel vasectomy to populations challenged by the health risks associated with unplanned pregnancy and less dependable forms of contraception. While ECHC of Orlando is strict in its standards of cleanliness and professionalism, please do not expect an ultramodern facility with indirect lighting and leather armchairs in the reception area. Do expect a great appreciation for your willingness to support ECHC by choosing it as your vasectomy facility.

ECHC Orlando is in a single-story office building of 4 suites at 885 North Powers Drive ...

... one block north of West Colonial Drive on the right (east) side.

The entrance is just off the central open-air corridor.

Tyson will be there to greet you.

It may be more convenient to enter from the back ...

... where there is plenty of parking.

ECHC Orlando is located at 885 North Powers Drive, about one block north of the section of West Colonial Drive between Hawassee Road (served by SR 408 Exit 4) and Kirkman Road (served by SR 408 Exit 5). Powers Drive is about midway between these two roads, 0.5 miles east of Hawassee and 0.6 miles west of Kirkman.

Directions:

From points northeast (e.g. Daytona & Sanford), take I-4 or SR 417 (the Central Florida Greenway) to SR 408 (the East-West Expressway). Travel west on 408 to Exit 5 (Kirkman Road). Go right (north) on Kirkman Road to West Colonial Drive. Turn left onto Colonial and drive west to Powers Drive (about 0.6 miles). Turn right (north) on Powers and the ECHC will be about 100 yards up on the right side.
As an alternative, one patient suggested taking I-4 West (actually traveling south as I-4 goes through Orlando) to Exit 88. Go west and south on Lee Road (which turns into John Young Parkway), 5 miles to West Colonial Drive. Turn right (west) on Colonial, travel 3 miles to Powers, then right on Powers as above.
From points north (e.g. Tavares), take US 441 to State Road 429 (a toll road). Travel south on 429 to either State Road 50 or to the Florida Turnpike. State Road 50 eastbound becomes West Colonial Drive, and you can take that all the way to Powers Drive, but you will bypass lots of traffic and many red lights if you take 429 to the Florida Turnpike, then the Turnpike south one exit (2 miles to Exit 265) to the East-West Expressway (417), then the Expressway east to Exit 4 (Hawassee Road). Turn left (north) on Hawassee and go to West Colonial Drive. Turn right on Colonial and travel east about 0.5 miles to Powers Road. Turn left (north) on Powers and the ECHC will be about 100 yards up on the right side.
From points southeast (e.g. Melbourne), take the Florida Turnpike to Exit 265, the East-West Expressway (417), then the Expressway east to Exit 4 (Hawassee Road). Turn left (north) on Hawassee and go to West Colonial Drive. Turn right on Colonial and travel east about 0.5 miles to Powers Road. Turn left (north) on Powers and the ECHC will be about 100 yards up on the right side. This may seem a bit indirect, but there are no exits between Exit 259 and Exit 265 to provide a more direct route.
From points southwest (e.g. Lakeland), take I-4 to Exit 75B, then go north on Kirkman Road 5.9 miles to West Colonial Drive. Turn left onto Colonial and drive 0.6 miles west to Powers Drive. Turn right (north) on Powers and the ECHC will be about 100 yards up on the right side.

Financial Aid
Medicaid and Medicaid HMO
patients are accepted with proper referral, but 2 visits are required to allow for the mandatory 30-day interval (required by Medicaid) between signing your consent and having your vasectomy. Many private insurance plans cover vasectomy. If you have insurance, call your carrier and ask the questions listed here. Then call Dr. Stein's office (813-972-1365) to see if they can accept payment from your carrier.
If you have no health insurance (Medicaid or private) and your income is low, you may qualify for financial aid under a federal program called Title 10, administered by many of Florida's county health departments. The Orange County Health Department has a Title 10 vasectomy program. Financial screening is done by appointment. Please call the Health Department at
(407) 836-2600.

When you arrive at the Orlando location, you will be asked to provide demographic and health history information as you are at any doctor's office. You may now register online before your visit. The benefits are numerous and listed in our On-line Registration Page.
