web site)
The staff of the Charlotte
County Health Department offers a very patient-friendly
vasectomy program
and their Title X (Ten) funds are also made available to residents of nearby counties.
Men who do not qualify for assistance are also welcome to have a
vasectomy at the Health Department for a fee of $495.
The protocol for vasectomy at the Health Department includes a full physical
exam and testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), all of which,
depending on the tests ordered by the health department doctor, costs an
additional $75-100, far less than would be charged by private facilities for the
same tests. And testing for STIs can be declined. Consultations may
be arranged by appointment at any of the
three Health Department clinics in Charlotte County,
but Gail Hughes, RN, the Family Planning Coordinator, is based at the Port
Charlotte facility, so that site may be your best bet. Vasectomies are performed
every 8-10 weeks at the Health Department
clinic in Port Charlotte by
Dr. Doug
Stein according to his schedule
(click for dates). If the Port Charlotte procedure dates
are not convenient or if there are not enough patients on an assigned date to
make a special trip worthwhile, you may have your vasectomy under the Charlotte County
Title 10 program at Planned Parenthood in Sarasota
or Planned Parenthood in Ft. Myers. Because of the requirement for a 30-day interval between informed
consent and the vasectomy procedure, candidates must
sign consents at the Health Department 30 days before their scheduled vasectomy
dates.
